Anatole’s Mill and Sawmill : Don’t miss this magical place steeped in history, thanks to Anatole Degenève. The oil mill, a listed Moulin d’Autrefois building, and its sawmill are worked by the power of the water.
Chapels, churches and shrines :
Erected as memorials to major events or as proof of local devotion, there are many such buildings along the roadsides and pathways in our villages. One of the most outstanding is St. Bruno’s Chapel on the shores of Lake Vallon, built in 1651 over the ruins of the 12th-century Carthusian monastery in Vallon. Another is the Hermone Chapel (alt. 1,327 metres), built in 1489 by 52 heads of families from Vailly. Both of them are well worth seeing. The churches in Bellevaux, Lullin and Vailly are examples of neo-Classical Sardinian-style churches in the Chablais area.
St Georges’ church in Saint-Jeoire and the Tour Carrée (square tower)
Saint Georges’ church in Saint-Jeoire and the Tour carrée, dates from the year 1000. It is a Neo-Gothic style and was restored in 1988.
Church at Onnion
The church at Onnion was built between 1824 and 1829. The exterior painting was done in 1871 by an Italian decorator.
The churches in the valley’s 8 villages have recently been restored but each has its own architecture and style. In Habère-Lullin, there is a 15th-century fresco depicting the Annunciation. Boëge boasts the only octagonal belltower in Haute-Savoie. Then there is the grain market in Boëge with its old corn measures, the chapel in the monastery in Les Voirons, the ruins of Habère-Lullin Castle etc.
