On the water’s edge in the Brevon Valley :

The Brevon : The river that gives its name to our valley rises at the foot of Roc d’Enfer. It crosses the entire Bellevaux Valley, through Vailly and Reyvroz, before flowing into Les Dranses and the waters of the Lake of Geneva.

Bellevaux Waterfall : Canyoning is popular here, at the waterfall located below the village, near the Accroparc. But if it’s a relaxing stroll you’re after, you can walk on to the covered bridge.

Lullin Waterfall : Located 10 minutes from the church, it is used by deer and other animals as a water supply, hence its name, the “cascade aux biches” (“does’ waterfall”).

Diomaz Waterfall : In this delightful spot only 30 minutes from Lake Vallon, the water flows over the waterfall into natural basins in the rock. At the foot of the cascade is the Carthusians’ Cross, carved into the rock to mark the boundary of their land.

Lake Vallon : created by a landslide in 1943, Lake Vallon keeps secrets steeped in history. The lake, standing in the shadow of Roc d’Enfer between mountains and forests, delights walkers and anglers (a haven for trout). Departure point for the “Eau vive, Qui vive?” sightseeing and interpretive trail.Area: 15 hectares. Depth: 16 metres

Lake Petétoz : a mysterious, fairytale lake nestling higher up in the mountains. A one-hour walk from La Chèvrerie in Bellevaux. Angling permitted. Area: 0.4 hectare. Depth : 15 metres

 The valley’s alpine pastures :

Take time to drink in the tranquillity of the alpine pastures. Lying at altitudes of between 1,000 and 1,800 metres and dotted with old chalets, they are reminders of the lifestyle of the farmers of the early 20th century who walked their livestock up to the pastures like the ones in Nifflon, Très le Saix, Pététoz, Chavan (2, with accommodation available in a mountain gîte), Très le Mont, Trécout, Montagne aux Sœurs, La Buchille, Pertuis etc.

Millstones of Mont-Vouan

At Viuz-en-Sallaz the millstone of the Mont-Vouan are part of the story of the valley. Until the beginning of the 20th century, local rocks were quarried and cut to be used as millstones.
We can even see today large round holes, nearly
2 metres high, in the rock from which millstones were extracted. Both more important are the ones called: “La Grande Gueule” (big mouth) or “Grotte aux fées” (fairy cave), or “Grande Meulière” (big millstone). The other, known as the “millstone of Vachat”, is on the cliff that overhangs the “Gouille aux morts” (dead man’s pool).
Le Vouan, a small mountain of 978m high, also had a smugglers’ trail.
It was mostly the land of fairies and there are many legends

about them.
It is said that you can meet a young girl who gives leaves turn to gold.
They also tell that a cave contains golden skittles and another closed up fairies who stole wheat.

La Tourne bridge at Onnion

A highly symbolic bridge.
For the people of Onnion, the beginning of the 20th century was marked by the building of an important structure, as practical as it was symbolic.
This is
La Tourne bridge, inaugurated in 1907, the only one, with that of Bellosset, to link up both mountainsides of the village.
From the bridge, looking downstream, there is a magnificent view of the torrent called Le Risse, flowing through rocks that it has sculpted through the ages into vast cauldrons.
The colour of the torrent’s clear water and the lush vegetation on its banks are truly beautiful.
A fact that is not lost on the many tourists who take photographs of this lovely scene.

The natural heritage in the Vallée Verte provides countless breathtaking views of the valley, the Lake of Geneva or Mont-Blanc. Among the sights are the millstone quarries in Molière (Saint-André), reminders of the millstones quarried from the rocks. Amazing!
